10 Questions with Kelli Walker

1. Introduction: What's your story?

I started my photography journey capturing families and their adorable newborns. But once I dipped my toes into the world of boudoir, I realized my passion was creating unforgettable experiences—not just for women, but for men and couples too. Over time, I wanted to take my sessions to a whole new level, embracing unique, off-the-wall concepts that cater to each client’s desires. With our world full of trends and unrealistic expectations, I knew I didn’t want any of that energy in my studio. Instead, I’ve poured hours into education, practice, and fine-tuning my craft to ensure every session I offer is truly one-of-a-kind.

As a self-taught photographer, I’ve always had a creative streak—whether it’s painting, sculpting, writing, or now photography. I’ve used art as a way to express my emotions, and now I offer my clients that same freedom to explore and express themselves.

2. What is your experience shooting boudoir?

Once I discovered boudoir, I knew it was my true calling. I’ve spent countless hours refining my skills to create a space where my clients can express themselves freely and feel empowered. From guiding you through poses to making sure you feel comfortable every step of the way, my goal is to offer an unforgettable experience tailored to your unique desires. Whether you're new to boudoir or a seasoned pro, I’ll be right there to capture your beauty and confidence in a way that feels authentic to you.

3. Where will the photo shoot take place?

Our studio is located at the Russell Industrial in the art wing in Detroit, MI

4. How should customers prepare for the Boudoir photo shoot?

The most important step in preparing for your boudoir shoot is to set aside some time to envision the experience you want. Do you want to start fully clothed and gradually turn up the heat, or are you leaning toward a more elegant and mysterious vibe? Every client who steps into my studio gets a session tailored to their unique personality and desires.

Take a moment to think about the outfits you want to bring (I provide body chains, handcuffs, and collars) and any props you’d like to include. Most importantly, consider how far you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone—this is your moment to express yourself!

5. Will there be a hairstylist and make-up artist?

I do have a glam squad on hand, but I also have a list of recommendations if you would like to have a spa day before your experience.

6. What do you do to make your customers feel comfortable for the shoot?

I pride myself in making myself available for my clients before their photoshoots to answer questions, help with outfit planning, and even giving them a little pep talk to help their nerves. Boudoir is a very intimate experience and I want to make sure my clients know who I am as a person not just a business. I like to think that session's with me are more like a girls night out and not so much a photoshoot

7. Are pictures printed or do you provide a digital file?

After photo shoots my clients take a 90 minute break to go snag some lunch before they come back to the studio to look at their images. During their image reveals clients can expect to look at anywhere from 80-100 images PLUS the black and white replica. Images will be lightly edited and I give my clients the option on how much skin retouching they would like. This photo shoot is all about them after all.

The amount of images client receives depends on how they would like to customize their collections. I offer a range of collections to choose from including exclusive digital collections, Luxury albums, and wall art

If physical products are what their hearts desire, they will be shipped to the studio for the final inspection and clients have the option to pick them up at the studio or if they are traveling out of town, I can ship their items to their home.

8. What happens on the day?

Sessions start with professional hair and make up while they relax and enjoy some of the snacks and beverages we offer in the studio. During that time we will go over the outfits they have brought with them and discuss where in the studio they would like to wear their outfits. I might even add in some other idea's depending on the clients comfort level.

Before the session starts we will do some light stretching. Believe me, we will work muscle's you didn't even know you had and getting a muscle cramp is never amazing. We will spend the next 90 minutes working around the studio. We have a bed, couch, faux shower and even offer bodyscape type photography. Don't worry if you don't know how to pose, I walk you through everything and even allow you to through in your own little twists.

Once your session is complete we will take a break for you to go grab lunch or a coffee while I lightly edit your images.

9. Where will the photographs be used?

What I love most about boudoir photography is it gives my clients the chance to freely express themselves with no judgment. That also includes how they would like their images to be displayed. Most of my clients choose to keep their sessions 100% private and some of my clients give me total control to share their images on my website and social media platforms. I also give my clients the option to only share anonymous images. Which means that all the images I share from their session can not be identified as them.

I know some occupations are extremely strict on what people do on their free time and I never want to jeopardize that.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

To book your session a $700 non-refundable session fee is due to hold your date. If clients have an emergency and can't make their sessions, they may reschedule their session at no additional fee (One reschedule). Clients that have pre-paid for their collections and choose to cancel their sessions will be refunded the collection amount only.
