10 Questions with David Victory

1. Introduction: What's your story?

We make a photo, not take a photo.

I received my first camera a plastic lens Diana at age 5 and printed my first black and white in the darkroom at age 8, studied both classical film photography & video and continuously shooting professional photography to this day.

Currently I have 400 five star reviews across the net and my website vrset.com has been online for 24 years.

My experience spans 35mm motion picture using Panavision and Arriflex cameras for Hollywood productions as well as Hasselblad 70mm film and most other formats to date, I have taught specialty courses at UCLA.

2. What is your experience shooting boudoir?

I am a published author on the subject of boudoir and photography in general, plus consider the medium one of the greatest arts, where a photo does speak a thousand words.

This is how I challenge myself to improve, by making each boudoir session a custom bespoke experience and not cookie cutter.

My fashion photography background is key in keeping my style fresh, up to date and very different.

I photograph boudoir in classical, avant-garde, modeling, film noire, playboy, fine art, implied and wet styles.

Boudoir is above all an artistic achievement, especially with the client's trust and engagement in the photography process, so important that there is this positive mental energy between the client and photographer, clients book boudoir for a variety of reasons like bridal, gift to fiancee, self confidence, after getting in or and just experiencing the process for the first time.

3. Where will the photo shoot take place?

My boudoir sessions are never twice the same: at resorts, boutique hotels, luxury airbnb, mansions, client homes and photo studios.

The location is extremely important and absolutely dictates the look and feel for each session, thats why shooting at the same location (boudoir mills) over and over does dull the shots and shooting experience for the client and photographers.

Plus I do have a well researched list of boudoir spaces which I share with clients who want their session at an all out boudoir specific space for a very sexy look.

4. How should customers prepare for the Boudoir photo shoot?

Same preparation as going to the beach, in fact the coverage is all up to the client and how revealing or imaginative they want their photo session to be, there is a misconception that boudoir is nudity, and I say that bikinis in Zuma are more revealing than lingerie in a boudoir session.

Plus its how you flaunt it not what you got, experience and direction comes to play at this point in the photo shoot, but even before, I consult with the clients so we prepare a moodboard that they really like and appreciate which becomes their session style guide.

5. Will there be a hairstylist and make-up artist?

Better yet, I can also involve a pro stylist on the team as well, some clients use fast services like the glamsquad app for hair and makeup before coming to set or on the set as I am setting up the equipment.

6. What do you do to make your customers feel comfortable for the shoot?

I have traveled to 75 cities worldwide and counting, and have shot at many exotic locations, I shoot out of open helicopters, lensed a thousand models, so chances are our paths have crossed in someway and there will be no shortage of really interesting talk during my sessions.

At least one female assistant is on the shoot pointing the strobes and assisting the client, my wife who is a top LA stylist, sometime may be assisting when not at work.

And clients are welcome to bring a friend to help them get ready during the session.

7. Are pictures printed or do you provide a digital file?

The top quality prints on archival paper are best handled by pro labs which I will refer after the shoot, its a simple matter of emailing them the digital file you like and the lab will mail the print to you in a few days, expertly color graded digitals are all included by google drive link, plus one special photoshop retouched digital will be my gift to each client free of charge.

Photoshop retouching is not priced into the production cost simply because we don't know how many shots will need how much editing...

8. What happens on the day?

Well lets start back on the initial email or call first, way before the shoot day I would have a free consultation with the client about their boudoir aspiration and we will talk about the various location options, wardrobe and photography / lighting styles first to be on the page.

Then during the days leading to the session, I will help each client put together a moodboard and that will remove most of the unknowns about the session.

9. Where will the photographs be used?

I prefer to use one photo of each session in my portfolio with the clients approval, a shot we are both proud of the most.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

That rarely happens, 48h is the limit for cancelation and any deposit not applied towards costs can be refunded or rescheduled.

Once all is said and done, what remains are the great photographs and memories, not money.

Let's capture the most beautiful you in Boudoir.
