10 Questions with Aleigha Tucker

1. Introduction: What's your story?

Hi, I’m Aleigha Tucker, owner and photographer of IronVeil Boudoir, a luxury boudoir photography studio serving Charlotte, North Carolina.

Photography has been a significant part of my professional life for years, but I was drawn to boudoir because it allowed me to combine the artistic side of photography with something much more personal. I wanted to create work that was visually striking while giving people an experience that could genuinely affect the way they see themselves.

When I created IronVeil, I knew I wanted my photography to have its own identity. My style is influenced by dramatic lighting, rich shadows, editorial portraiture, and fine art, while still leaving room for softer, sensual imagery. I love being able to create photographs that feel bold and artistic rather than following one definition of what boudoir is supposed to look like.

Just as important is what happens during the session. I’ve built IronVeil as a private, judgment-free studio where women, men, couples, and LGBTQ+ clients are welcomed and fully guided throughout their experience. I want people to walk into my studio knowing they don’t have to perform or know how to pose. That’s my job. Their only job is to show up, trust the process, and give themselves permission to experience it.

Ultimately, IronVeil grew from two things I care deeply about: creating powerful photography and giving people an experience that makes them feel unstoppable.

2. What is your experience shooting boudoir?

My experience with boudoir is built on a much broader foundation as a professional photographer. I’ve spent years photographing people, studying lighting, posing, composition, and learning how small adjustments can completely change the way someone photographs. That experience has been invaluable in boudoir, where most of the people I work with have little or no experience in front of a professional camera.

I photograph women, men, and couples across a wide range of boudoir styles, from soft and sensual imagery to dramatic bodyscapes, editorial portraits, and fine-art nude work. Lighting is a particularly important part of my photography. I love shaping light intentionally, whether I’m creating deep shadows and sculpting the body or producing something brighter and more editorial.

Boudoir has also taught me that technical skill is only part of creating a successful image. I need to understand the person I’m photographing, recognize when something isn’t working for them, and adjust the session accordingly. Every body moves differently, every client brings a different level of comfort, and every person wants to be seen differently. My experience allows me to adapt the photography to the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to a predetermined set of poses.

3. Where will the photo shoot take place?

Boudoir sessions take place in my private studio in Midland, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. I designed the space specifically for boudoir photography, which gives me complete control over the environment, lighting, privacy, and overall experience.

The studio includes several distinct sets so clients can create a variety of looks without ever leaving the space. These include my signature black Diamond Wall, the Reflection set with its reflective floor, a softer bed set, and areas designed for dramatic lighting, bodyscaping, and fine-art imagery. I’m continually evolving the studio and adding elements that give me new ways to photograph my clients.

Because the studio is private, the session never feels like working in a busy commercial photography space with other clients coming and going. Hair and makeup, the photo session, and the same-day image reveal all happen in the studio, allowing the entire experience to feel personal, relaxed, and uninterrupted.

4. How should customers prepare for the Boudoir photo shoot?

I guide my clients through preparation well before they arrive at the studio, so they never have to figure everything out on their own. After booking, clients receive a detailed preparation and outfit guide covering what to wear, what to bring, grooming recommendations, and simple ways to prepare in the days leading up to their session.

When choosing outfits, I encourage clients to bring pieces that make them feel good rather than worrying about what they think they are “supposed” to wear for boudoir. Lingerie can be beautiful, but bodysuits, button-down shirts, meaningful personal items, or even implied and fine-art nude looks can all photograph beautifully.

On the day of the session, professional hair and makeup allows clients time to settle in before we begin photographing. I also recommend arriving well hydrated, avoiding tight clothing that can leave marks on the skin, and most importantly, not practicing poses beforehand. Clients don’t need to prepare for the camera. I provide complete posing and expression guidance throughout the session so they can focus on enjoying the experience.

5. Will there be a hairstylist and make-up artist?

Yes. Professional hair and makeup is included with my full boudoir experience and takes place right in the studio before we begin photographing. I work with professional artists who understand how to create looks that photograph beautifully while still allowing clients to feel like themselves.

Hair and makeup is customized to each person rather than following one standard “boudoir look.” Some clients want soft and natural, while others prefer something more glamorous or dramatic. We talk about those preferences so the finished look complements both the client and the style of images we’re creating.

I also consider this part of the experience an important transition into the session. It gives clients time to settle into the studio, relax, and enjoy being taken care of before stepping in front of the camera. By the time we begin photographing, they’ve already had time to get comfortable in the space and are ready to start creating.

6. What do you do to make your customers feel comfortable for the shoot?

Making clients feel comfortable starts long before they arrive at my studio. I virtually meet with every client beforehand so we can talk about what they want from their session, the styles they’re drawn to, their comfort level, and anything they may feel nervous or unsure about. By the time their session arrives, we’ve already started building that trust.

During the shoot, I never expect clients to know what to do. I demonstrate poses myself and guide everything from body positioning and movement to hands and facial expressions. We start gradually, which gives clients time to become comfortable with me, the studio, and the camera rather than feeling like they have to immediately perform.

I also pay close attention to boundaries. Boudoir can be vulnerable, and clients are always in control of how much they want to reveal and how they want to be photographed. My studio is private, judgment-free, and relaxed, and there is plenty of conversation and laughter throughout the session. I want the experience to feel collaborative, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable.

7. Are pictures printed or do you provide a digital file?

My full boudoir collections include both professionally retouched digital images and a handcrafted luxury album, so clients can enjoy their photographs in both digital and printed form. Depending on the collection selected, clients receive 20, 30, or their full gallery of finished digital images.

After the session, we have a same-day image reveal where clients see their photographs and select their favorites. The chosen images are then professionally retouched before the final digital files are delivered through a private online gallery.

I’m also a strong believer in creating something tangible from a boudoir session. Every full collection includes a luxury album that is customized using the client’s selected images. Additional artwork is available as well, including metal, acrylic, canvas, and fine-art framed prints.

Whether the photographs remain private on a client’s phone, become a beautiful album, or are displayed as artwork at home, clients can choose how they want to enjoy their images after the experience.

8. What happens on the day?

When clients arrive at my private studio, we start with professional hair and makeup. This gives them time to settle in, relax, and ease into the experience while we talk through the session and the looks we’ll be creating.

Once we begin photographing, I guide the entire process, with assistance from my studio assistant throughout the session. Clients never need to wonder where to stand, what to do with their hands, or what expression to make. I demonstrate poses myself and provide direction throughout, making adjustments based on each person’s body, comfort level, and the style we’re creating.

We move through several studio sets and outfit changes, creating a variety of imagery that can range from soft and sensual to dramatic, editorial, and fine-art inspired.

As soon as the photo session is complete, the images are ready to review with no additional wait time. We move directly into the same-day reveal while the client is still in the studio, where we view the photographs together, choose favorites, and select the collection that best fits what they want to take home.

9. Where will the photographs be used?

Client privacy is extremely important to me. Boudoir is personal, and I never assume a client is comfortable having their images shared publicly.

Photographs are kept private unless the client gives permission for specific images to be used by IronVeil Boudoir. That permission may include use on my website, social media, portfolio, advertising, or other marketing materials, but only when the client has agreed to it. Clients are never required to allow their images to be shared in order to book or enjoy their session.

Some clients are excited to have their photographs featured, while others prefer to keep every image completely private. Both choices are equally respected.

Clients receive their selected digital images through a private online gallery and can use them for personal purposes. Any public use of client images by IronVeil is handled separately and only with the appropriate permission.

10. What is your cancellation and/or refund policy?

I understand that life happens and plans sometimes need to change. The $475 reservation fee secures the client’s session date and is non-refundable. With at least seven days’ notice, clients may reschedule their session once and have the full reservation fee transferred to the new date.

Cancellations or rescheduling requests made with less than seven days’ notice may result in the reservation fee being forfeited. I always encourage clients to reach out as soon as possible if something unexpected comes up, and genuine emergencies are handled on an individual basis.
